Tonight, I am taking my son to his first play. It’s also my play – a play I wrote and sent in trust to Jamie to make what he needed out of it – and now there are some totally gorgeous puppets involved and they have toured all over Newfoundland with my little heart play about about resilience in the face of climate change. They have one more show tonight, at the GeoCentre, which is open to the public, so I am taking my child, and my spouse, and one of my best friends.
Melody and the Fishes is about a young woman who moves home to rural Newfoundland with her daughter. After a career in climate activism, Melody is burnt out and grieving – a grief compounded by the loss of her mother. In an attempt to find a new path in life, she goes out fishing with her grandfather, and is pulled overboard, but when she hits the water she becomes a fish. In her quest to find her way home, she encounters an array of marine animals and finds a way to help each of them out.
I love this little play.
