Dayboil: a world premiere

New play alert!

Dayboil is a one-act play I’ve been working on since 2018. I saw it read at the 2019 Playwrights’ Atlantic Resource Centre in 2019, and lucky for me, so did Richie Wilcox, the current Artistic Producer at Ship’s Company Theatre. He asked me for the premiere and I could not believe my luck!

I’ve been here in Parrsboro, NS since Wednesday and have seen both previews, so I can confidently say there has never been a more passionate team to pull a script off the page and bring it to life. It opens tonight!

This is a bit of a career landmark for me, too: my first script to be produced, directed and performed all by people who are not me. The feeling is incredible.

Many thanks to PARC for supporting the play, to ArtsNL for getting me to Parrsboro, to Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland for letting me be here to experience this despite the fact that I’m in rehearsal for something in St. John’s this week (more on that later).

More information about the show and ticket sales are available here.

An illustration of a woman sitting at a table with a cup of hot tea and a shot glass. Her face is obscured by the steam from the tea, upon which is the text "Ship's Company Theatre presents Dayboil written by Sharon King-Campbell." Below, it reads "July 27th-August 7th; Book your tickets in advance! shipscompanytheatre.com or 1-800-565-SHOW." A series of sponsor logos runs across the bottom of the poster: O'Regan's, Arts Nova Scotia, Government of Canada, Canada Council for the Arts, & Municipality of Cumberland.
