Quarterly Report #3
Hello, Internet! It’s Saturday, October 17th, which means I’m way past due on my 3rd Quarterly Report. Because it looks like 2015 will go down as the year when I was super busy doing things that were not blogging. For reference, here are the goals, and reports 1 and 2.
1. Make sure DanceNL gets a new strategic plan.
This one will get done by the end of the month. I swear. It has to, because that’s when the final report is due. And then I will publish it. I might even link to it from this site, because it has been such a thorn in the side of my productivity this year.
2. Run a project pairing up folklorists with seniors and have them all talk about games. 3. Perform in Jesus Christ Superstar. 4. Organize the heck out of Dance Week 2015. 5. Visit the Galapagos Islands. 6. Hike the Inca Trail. 7. Visit the Amazon Rainforest.
8. Write the first draft of a new one-woman show.
Status: oh… I don’t know… 7%?
So, the plan here was to take the last two weeks of August, when I was to be unemployed, and do most of this work. But then 2 things happened:
First, I moved. And in case you haven’t done it recently, I am here to tell you: Moving is ridiculous. It takes for f*cking ever. Packing. Unpacking. Finding homes for things that did not previously have homes. Also, moving has involved some pretty in-depth cleaning in this case, due to the presence of cats pre-move and my allergy to said cats. So, moving. That happened 6 weeks ago and it’s still going on.
Second, I was asked back to my job at DanceNL a week early. And I started a new job with etixnow – a digital box office-type thing – as soon as I got home from Stephenville. So, my two weeks off became pretty much… that one Wednesday. So, not so much of the time off for writing.
BUT! There is a PLAN in PLACE! Chiefly, the plan is to spend this month doing preliminary research part-time, and then in November (traditionally the month of big writing projects since my friend Andrew and I spent hours and hours sitting next to each other during NaNoWriMo 2011) I will write the thing. And, theoretically, I’ll present a workshop performance of it in early December. We hope.
9. Continue the quest for a passable red curry recipe.
Status: BACK IN THE GAME
One of the greatest accomplishments in The Moving Process was the setting up of a useable kitchen space. So now, I get to play with food again! I think that I have perhaps been using the wrong peppers, so the next step is to find the right ones.
10. Hang my f*cking art on my f*cking walls.
See above for comments about moving, but all my art is in a box in the living room, just waiting to be put on the walls. Once we’ve cleaned out the basement. And decided what colour to paint the walls. And then painted the walls.
In all honesty, I’m not totally sure this is going to happen in 2015. But we will try!
11. Work towards a school tour for Give Me Back
Status: like maybe 10%
This is happening, but that’s pretty much all I can say right now. Stay tuned!
12. Go skiing.
13. Enjoy food with people I love.
Status: All the time! I love food!
Also, the new kitchen contains a brie baker AND a pizza stone. (Oh – I’m not allergic to milk anymore, readers who have known me for a long time. I had an allergy test this spring that proves it. So now lactose pills are my best friends.) So now I’m sorting out the most successful pizza dough recipes and the most delicious things to bake onto a brie. It’s not unreasonable to think that there might be some posts on this blog in the future that come dangerously close to food porn.
14. Read books.
Well, I finished Lisa Moore’s gorgeous novel Alligator. And a swashbuckling-type book called Gentlemen of the Road, by Michael Chabon. And I re-read an old favourite, Tanya Huff’s Summon the Keeper. And that’s more or less it. Still. Reading is great.
Status: It’s not not happening…
15. Tell stories.
I basically haven’t stopped. I came home from the Stephenville Theatre Festival and went more or less straight into rehearsals for Fuddy Meers, which is coming up next week! Eek!
Overall Quarterly Assessment:Â Well, I’m 67.6% of the way to accomplishing my list of tasks, which indicates a 3% progress over the past quarter. So, we will try for better between now and January 1st.
Too bad “perform at the Stepheville Theatre Festival” and “move house” were not on the list, or I would be MILES ahead.
